Nusrat Farooq (ADEL 2022) recently wrote an op-ed for The Policy Center for the New South titled " Reimagining International Security: Multilateralism vs multi-Stakeholderism". In her op-ed, Nusrat argues that with the rise of social media and emerging technologies like generative artificial intelligence, international security has become more complex and requires a shift from traditional multilateralism to multi-stakeholderism. Nusrat advocates for a more inclusive and collaborative approach to tackling global security challenges. Read Nusrat's piece here.

Carolina Novac (ADEL 2023) penned an opinion piece on her to the World Economic Forum titled “WEF 2024: How Can AI Drive a More-Effective Energy Transition?”. Carolina focuses on the critical role of artificial intelligence in the energy transition. She highlights AI's potential to optimize electricity management, enhance renewable energy trading, tackle energy inequity, and accelerate innovation, emphasizing its crucial role in building a sustainable, affordable, and secure energy system. Roxy Ndebumadu (ADEL 2023) wrote a piece on how investing in human capital will spur technological innovations across the Atlantic. Roxy argues for a new global agreement that focuses on making people's lives better amid the changes happening worldwide. Ndebumadu also talks about using new ideas, keeping talented people in their home countries, and helping small businesses grow to build a stable and prosperous future. Read more here.

In her op-ed, Camila Crescimbeni (ADEL 2023) ponders Alec Russell's question on democracy's survival in 2024. Drawing from Claude Lefort's insights, she discusses democracy's inherent uncertainty and the shift from absolute to immanent foundations. Crescimbeni emphasizes the need for societies to embrace diversity and dynamism for democracy to thrive, urging for discussions focused on building a happier, more tolerant world. During the first quarter of the year 2024, two series of podcasts were initiated with the ADEL alumni community: the second season of Bridging the Gender Gap, a thought-provoking podcast series on gender that started in 2021, and another series titled Echoes of the Earth addressing environmental challenges around the Atlantic. In these four episodes, three insightful discussions from Bridging the Gender Gap and a captivating one from Echoes of the Earth provide valuable insights into pressing global issues. The podcasts are also available on all audio streaming platforms: Spotify, Google & Apple Podcasts, Soundcloud etc.

Sydney navigates through strategies for recognizing biases within this framework and advocates for inclusivity, offering perspectives on fostering a more equitable society.

Camila explores the key challenges young people, especially women, encounter when entering politics, assess Argentina's political landscape for gender equality and youth representation, and discuss essential initiatives for fostering youth participation in decision-making. |

Silindile Mlilo (ADEL 2018) on Gender, Youth & migration here. In this podcast, Silindile leads us through an exploration of the dynamics shaping the experiences of migrant youth. Through her research and real-world engagement, she unpacks the unique challenges faced by young migrants in both their home and destination countries.

ADEL alumna Clarissa Rios Rojas (ADEL 2016), part of the Biological & Toxin Weapons Convention (BWC) Implementation Support Unit at the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, was a featured speaker in the recent Science Diplomacy course on Biosecurity, co-organized by the World Academy of Sciences, the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB) & UN Disarmament. The Policy Center for the New South has partnered with the Italian Institute for International Political Studies (ISPI) and the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) in India, two think tanks and long standing partners, to further empower members of our respective young professionals alumni communities and leverage on the connections made. In this collaboration, a few members from the ADEL alumni community are nominated by the PCNS to attend the respective young professionals leadership programs, namely the Asian Forum for Global Governance (AFGG) organized by ORF, and Next Forum organized by ISPI, while alumni from both the AFGG and Next communities are nominated for the ADEL program. Additionally, several other ADELs were in attendance at these events, underscoring the breadth and presence of the community in important internation events worldwide. For members of the ADEL community interested in these programs, please manifest your interest by responding to our call for applications for each program, in due time.

From February 16 to 25, ADELs had the opportunity to participate in the Asian Forum on Global Governance program, which engages young politicians, diplomats, business leaders, journalists, civil society representatives, and scholars from around the world in an annual dialogue on current political, economic, and social questions. Pictured: ADELs Aleksandra Chmielewka (Poland) and Santiago Theoduloz (Uruguay) were nominated by the Policy Center. Also in attendance were Lilia Rizk from the Policy Center, and ADEL alumni Hallelujah Lulie (Ethiopia), and Marianna Albuquerque (Brazil). For the Next Forum, ADELs Leonardo Paraga (Colombia), Macarena Acuipil (Argentina), and Ali Belhaj Zahi (Tunisia, not pictured) have been nominated to attend, along with Imane Lahrich from the Policy Center for the New South (PCNS). Additionally, ADELs Pedro Vormittag (Brazil) and Igor Malegri (Italy) from the 2023 cohort were also present at the event.

In April 2024, the ADEL team hosted virtual meetups bringing together ADELs from various cohorts since the program's inception. Through engaging discussions and shared experiences, participants strengthened connections and deepened their sense of community. These meetups exemplified the spirit of collaboration and support within the ADEL community, fostering lasting bonds among members as they continue their journey of growth and leadership. |
