Dear ADEL Alumni and AD Community,
A little over a month ago, the Policy Center for the New South held the 9th edition of the Atlantic Dialogues Emerging Leaders program from December 11th to 13th in Marrakesh. This was our first in person edition since 2019, and we could not have been more thrilled with the 2022 cohort and the outcome of the program. Click here for the ADEL 2022 short bios, and read on below for a short recap of the program.

Recap of the 9th Edition of the ADEL Program
Same as every year, the 2022 edition of the program took place over three intense days, combining panel discussions, workshops, and site visits.
During the panel discussions of the program, the participants had the opportunity to learn from and engage with experts on a large range of topics including Industry 4.0, Information Literacy, Sustainable Innovation and Equitable Education Systems. The interactive and policy driven workshops on leadership, intersectionality of public policies and the Atlantic community allowed the group to interact and put new tools into practice. Finally, the visits to the UM6P - Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, Benguerir, the Green Energy Park & Green Smart Building Park, and the 1337 Coding School provided the group exposure to Moroccan research & innovation and institutions that are part of the OCP ecosystem, and a chance to see firsthand the local dimension of some of the concepts discussed during the program.

As per the tradition, the ADEL cohort joined the Atlantic Dialogues conference on December 14th following their program, and, for some, took on speaking roles in breakout dinners (BOD) and in the final plenary session. Theodora Skeadas spoke in the BOD about New Digital Technologies for Development, Fatma Ahmed in the BOD about the Challenges of Human Development, and Winnie Mutai in the BOD adressing Climate Finance. For the final plenary of the conference dedicated to the cohort, Nusrat Farooq, Lavar Thomas, Cecilia Vidotto Labastie, Amine Dehmej, and Paulina Batista were selected by their peers to represent the group, and chose the topic The Future We Want to speak about their experiences and expectations for the future.

The ADEL Alumni in AD 2022 |
Reinviting ADEL Alumni to attend the Atlantic Dialogues has also become a tradition and is a way for the Policy Center for the New South to enable intergenerational dialogue during the conference and ensure that the conversation is inclusive of emerging leaders voices. In the 2022 edition, 30 Alumni took part in the conference, of which 12 either spoke in, or moderated, sessions during the Atlantic Dialogues conference and/or the ADEL program. To name a few, Ana Paula Barreto, ADEL 2018, and Tecoah Dove, ADEL 2015, both spoke in the BOD about Women’s Leadership in Times of Crises, Naakoshie Mills, ADEL 2016, moderated the session on US-Africa relations.
Following their contribution in the 2022 edition of annual Atlantic Currents report in chapters about “Agriculture and Technology” and “Water (In)Security”, Hamza Rkha Chaham and Ahmed Rachid El Khattabi spoke in the Launch of the 9th edition of the Atlantic Currents to present their chapters.
